Kelly holds a Bachelor of Music degree in Music Education from the University of Mary Hardin-Baylor in Belton Texas, and a Masters of Music degree in Vocal Performance from Sam Houston State University in Huntsville, Texas.  In addition, she holds a Certificate of Kodaly Pedagogy from Sam Houston State University.

Experience

Kelly believes that music should be expressed and practiced in the community in which one lives.

She has taught as a music educator in the public school systems of Texas, Kentucky, Maryland and Georgia for over 20 years.  Currently an elementary, general music and chorus teacher, she has also had experience as a secondary choral director.

Private instruction in voice and piano have been a part of Kelly’s teaching career for 15 years.  She is a huge proponent of the Mayron Cole Piano Method which simultaneously incorporates three aspects of piano pedagogy: playing technique, music theory, and ensemble playing.  Group lessons (2-3 students per group) are her preferred instructional setting, with the understanding that some students may require a private setting for success.

In addition to teaching privately and within the public school system, she served as the Assistant Director of the Music and Arts Center of Huntsville, Texas.  “It was a whole new world of opportunity that I did not know existed,” said Kelly of her time there.  “I taught Kindermusik classes, and voice lessons, as well as executing the day to day operations and marketing of the Center.  I became a part of a larger community of music-making that impacted music education in a very positive way, and that is what I want to continue being a part of.”
